pastel on panel
taking a kayaking break for some lunch at The Fish House on the ICW, I noticed
how the scene reflected in my girlfriend's sunglasses was enhanced by the color
of the rims. I had been looking for a way to combine the genres of landscape,
portraiture, and still life in a new way and this struck me as a perfect
might recognize some local Wilmington landmarks such as the Blue Water.
Artist Christopher Reid
was born in South Africa, but moved to
the US at an early age. He studied fine art at The Savannah
College Of Art And Design and UNC-Wilmington. He trained
in all media, but currently favors pastel, acrylic, watercolor,
and charcoal. You will see in his portfolio that he enjoys painting
all kinds of subjects and his style varies based on his mood at the time
and the subject.
am passionate about art, enjoy the act of creation, and hope to help people who
view my artwork appreciate the beauty already around them. Too many people
stumble through life without enjoying nature. Art is a form of communication
and it is as important what you say as how you say it. I am an optimist at
heart and I choose to use my art to talk about beauty. Since nature provides
the inspiration for art, I enjoy painting en plein air so that I can be out in
nature and incorporate all the senses into my paintings and better communicate
an experience of the place. When I paint from photographs, I am able to
incorporate all the information I have observed from direct experience about
color and light into my paintings.
